Superior Furniture: Superior Quality For Custom Furniture!

One of my favorite furniture companies to use as a designer is Superior Furniture, because they are superior! This family owned company has been hand crafting beautiful furniture for over 70 years. High quality workmanship and the attention to detail differentiates this furniture from your everyday manufacturer. They are dedicated to producing an excellent quality product with long lasting value. How many steps from start to finish? After making the piece by hand in their factory, then begins the 16 steps of finishing that starts with hand spraying then continues with sanding, distressing, glazing, lacquering and hand rubbing. This company was a life long dream of the owner and the name derives from the caliber of craftsmanship that would go into the products. Hence, Superior Furniture!

One of my favorite pieces to use over and over is the above French Bookcase. This piece is especially great to use as a sofa table. It comes with audio management too in case you need to use it for your television and components. Made of solid hardwood and is 61" long  x 17" deep x 31" high. See the bookcase below that I just delivered to my client this week!

For my client, I finished the bookcase in Antique French White on the bottom and Antique Sienna for the top. Both finishes were then heavily distressed with an added shiny lacquer coat on the top for durability and style.

Another favorite piece we use often is this pine Chairside Storage Chest. Perfect for many rooms and styles depending on the finish used. Size: 24" wide x 24" high x 12" deep.

And don't worry, they do a few modern pieces too! This Bistro Table is perfect for the modern kitchen in a new color, Hot Lime. Solid cherry wood at 42" round x 36" high.

Superior's difference: Fifty plus finish options in stains and paints, three levels of antiquing, two tone combination finishes of stains and paints, catalyzed lacquer available and the sixteen step process for a superb finish.  All photos courtesy of Superior Furniture.

Book Review: Metropolitan Home: Glamour, Making It Modern

Can you have glamour in a modern room? Yes, you can! I just finished reading Metropolitan Home's book, "Glamour, Making It Modern", by Michael Lassell. The colorful photographs depict modern styled rooms with added glamour that doesn't necessarily mean lots of glitz. Glamour in these rooms means they have a wow factor that will be noticed when you visit. This is a beautiful book full of photos from designers that know how to add glamour to a room. Take a look at this wonderful book, especially if you are a modern fan! You can find it in the column on the left or check with your local library. See a few of our favorite dining rooms below shown in this wonderful book.

Designer Barbara Westbrook created modern glamour in this new Atlanta home. The high sheen on the Venetian plaster walls is accompanied by sisal carpeting, modern art and a formal custom table. The silk damask dining chairs are enhanced by the modern chandelier from Donghia and a metal chinoiserie chair not in the photo.

This room was designed by Shamir Shah in the Hamptons and features a custom dining room chandelier by New York sculptor, Susan Etkin. The chandelier is made of colored glass including mercury glass for a spectacular glamorous feel that coordinates with the rug colors.

This townhouse was designed by Nestor Santa-Cruz from Washington D.C.  He prefers to design rooms in black, gold and white or in combinations of the same. The table is designed of copper and walnut with an overscaled chandelier in bronze by designer Herve Van der Straeten.
